There was a lot of traffic today. I barely got into work at 7:57 a.m. When I came in, I was ready to finish up the benchmarking of Hudson Pacific, but when I opened my file, I found out that I forgot to save my work on Hudson. That was a disappointing feeling, but thankfully, I feel like I’m starting to get a hang of where to find everything. I started over, and by lunch time I finished Hudson completely. For my first benchmarking on Griffin, things were so difficult that the last section had to be left empty, but for Hudson, I filled in every section with accuracy, for all I know. After lunch, I went to go check my work with Martha, but she was on a lunch with a client. After I had a talk with Ani, I learned that there is an array of projects that people have for the real estate interns. I’ve finished a few projects, but I need to pick up the pace with only seven days left to be on the team. After going around, looking for a project, Edytte gave me another benchmarking project with Britannia Pacific Property Inc. Usually Martha assigns me those so I didn’t know how difficult this one would be as she picked them somewhat randomly. After looking up the company, I found out that they didn’t have any numbers of buildings set for their assets, so I took that time to fill all of that out and highlighted my changes. Then I went to work on them and got most of it done. I finished my day filling out most of the benchmarking. Even though the day didn’t feel so long, I was still very tired while leaving. It was a good day nonetheless.

Again, there was a lot of traffic today. I don’t know what it is about this week. I got in around 7:55 and got right to work and finished my benchmarking of Britannia Pacific. The only question I had was with the casualty rates. Rowland works with Britannia so he showed me where to look for the rates. Apparently, it was a file that I already had open, however the format was completely different than what I was accustomed to, so I let it go. If there is one difficulty doing the benchmarking, it would be the casualty rates because they are either in different places, or they are in a different format. It could because I’m an intern so I wouldn’t know what all of the rates look like in any format, but m glad I got it done. We had a real estate team meeting today since last week’s got canceled. It was really funny because in the beginning of the meeting, they all had papers guessing what each other would be if they weren’t in insurance. It was hilarious seeing what everyone would want to be. In the meeting a bigger issue was the set-up of the folders, more on the casualty side. As I said, it is quite difficult to find the rates and so they discussed how the folders should be and what the title of the final link should be. It is all to make it easier and more organized. After the meeting, I then got with Vickie and she had me make audits into pdf for Decron. This task was really easy. All I had to do was single out each row and then save it to a pdf. The only thing is that it is time consuming when it is a pretty big one. After that had a little time on my hand so I used it to finish up my journal up to this point. It is almost the end of the day and I feel like this was one of my better days, thankfully.

Today started off much different than usual. We were visited FM Global to start the day at 9:00, so instead of the normal hour and a half drive, today’s drive was 2 hours and 20 minutes. However, I had a good sleep last night so it wasn’t so bad. The trip was extremely fun with a lot of good laughs. The men and women at FM Global were really cool and fun to talk to. There presentations also taught a lot about them and what makes them such a good insurance company. Then there was a presentation that focused on the importance of sprinklers in buildings and how they can save huge disasters. They asked us questions with prizes going to those that answered correctly. When they asked what expenses do insurances had, I knew the answer and said the paid losses that their clients had. I got to pick out of a prize bag and picked a charger packet. Little did I know, it was a car charger, which is something I already have. Later on we played a game that I unfortunately got 2nd place in. Each table was basically a company and we had 3 rounds to buy protections for our company so it can be safe from disasters. Each disaster was random because we would throw a magnet dart on a board to decide what would happen. It was really fun and all of us had a lot of laughs. After we got back Chris gave me an assignment creating the SOV for ACF. This is the first time I created it from scratch with the information that they gave us. They had quite a few assets as well, but I’ve gotten the hang of things so I tried to do this fast. He gave me to the end of tomorrow to finish it. My day finished doing this project and I already am almost done. All that I have to do left is put in the longitudes and latitudes. That will take no time tomorrow. It feels good that I will get it done early in the morning while Chris gave me until the end of the day.

As I said yesterday, finishing the latitudes and longitudes would take no time. I was done with those before 9:00 a.m. I went up to Chris and he said that it all looked good. The only thing that he was going to do was check what building classes I put for the assets. However, he was busy so he didn’t have time to do any of that yet. After that, Corey gave me a very similar assignment that Chris gave me, but a much smaller scale. I was able to finish that rather quickly. The biggest difference was they gave us every piece of information that we needed, so I didn’t have to judge their construction class, look up their latitudes and longitudes, nor decipher any information that needed changing in order to put in the SOV. That was done rather quickly, so I went to Edytte, and she gave me a project building up columns for the builder’s risk proposal. I found that rather interesting because that explained how we decide which carriers to choose for our clients. That didn’t take too long, so then I went to Vickie and se gave me another project saving PDF’s for Hudson Pacific and their audit endorsements. However, lunch was on the way so I put that on hold. After lunch, I went to work on Vickie’s project, but there was a problem with the folder. It wouldn’t accept the names that Vickie wanted so she had me name them something different. However, as I was doing this, Edytte emailed me asking me to do another column in the builder’s risk proposal. Vickie’s project had a lot of saving to do so I decided to do Edytte’s first. I was use to doing this now so I quickly was able to that, and then got on with Vickie’s project. As I was finishing up that, Corey came in with another project. I was almost done so I accepted it. It was updating the premium financing for Sunstone. All I had to do was take the information provided in the PDF and move it to the excel sheet we had. I finished Vickie’s project then did Corey’s and that was the end of my projects today. I didn’t realize how much I did until I started writing this journal. I finished up 6 tasks in one day. It was a great day overall, but I’m, most certainly, excited for the short day tomorrow!
6/30/17
Happy Friday! Today is also a short day so it’s an even happier. Today started off with me getting a project from Martha, but turns out, that project was already done so I didn’t have to do it. Then Corey gave me a project, but when I was starting, she decided to do it herself. Maybe it was urgent. I offered to do it for her quickly, but she went ahead and did it. Then I wondered how productive today was going to be since it was such a short day having not being able to do the assignments given to me. Then I went to Stefanie, and she gave me a project to fill out the loss record letter for Hudson Pacific Property. This was the first time I did this so at first, I was really confused on how she described what she wanted me to do, how to do it, and where to go. So when I tried doing it myself, things weren’t going so well, so I went back up to her and asked her to explain it again, but this time I understood much better. I went back to my desk and did the project successfully. The day was close to an end so I decided not to take on another assignment and just finish up the rest of my journals and work on some E-learns. Overall, today was nowhere near as productive as yesterday was, but it was short, so I’ll give it a pass. I’m excited for the weekend and all of the sleep I’m going to get. Week 4 is done and next week is my last week with the real estate team. I hope it can finish off well.
